Employing more than 5,000 engineers, 2,400 scientists and 2,000 PhDs, the Roane County, Oak Ridge and Knoxville area focuses on cutting-edge classroom technology to develop workforce-ready graduates.
Roane State Community College has graduated more technical workers than any other community college in the country. Students can earn a degree or take courses toward a career in healthcare, business, technology and beyond.
Roane County offers a diverse, willing and available workforce — from the Oak Ridge area, with more PhDs per square mile than anywhere else in the country, to the traditional skilled labor pool built by generations of industry.

Programs with promise
Opportunities for a growing workforce
TN Promise & TN Scholars
TN Promise covers two-year community or technical college (about 60% of participants are first-generation students). TN Scholars requires a rigorous course of study, a C average, 95% attendance, no suspensions, and 80 hours of community service.
K-12 Programming
Hosted by area businesses since 2009, connecting classroom learning to real workplace expectations. 18 organizations have hosted 55 visits for Roane County educators from elementary through college.
Career & Job Fair
An annual High School Career Exploration Day held every May since 2009, where 500+ juniors meet roughly 50 businesses — resumes and questions in hand.
Work-Based Learning
Co-op and internship placements let seniors apply classroom knowledge on the job. Areas include Criminal Justice, Business, Marketing, Agriculture, STEM, Digital Arts & Design, and Health Science.

At the High School Career Exploration Day, more than 500 Roane County juniors meet roughly 50 local employers face to face — asking questions, handing over resumes, and discovering careers that exist ten minutes from home.
Made possible by the Roane Alliance, the Chamber's Education Committee, Roane County Schools, Roane State Community College, and TCAT–Harriman.
