About the designation

A Tennessee Valley leader in sustainability

Roane County was one of the first counties in the Tennessee Valley designated a Silver Level Sustainable Community through the TVA Sustainable Communities Program. The county earned Silver in 2013, was re-designated in 2016 and holds that level today — recognition of community-wide sustainable effort, not a single project.

The Roane Alliance led the county's participation, cataloging Roane's sustainable assets to strengthen competitiveness when companies evaluate new or expanded locations in the valley. Evaluation covered sustainability preparedness and education, economic vitality, environmental and societal commitment, and health and wellness.
